  1. Hello! I'm trying to crochet my first pair of gloves (I asked my boyfriend what he'd want me to make him for Christmas and he, of course, chose the hardest thing possible). I found this pattern that I love, and so far it's gone well; I've reached the part where I'm supposed to chain a new section to begin making the thumb. This is where I get tripped up, though! The pattern states, "Ch 9 loosely, draw up a loop in 2nd st from hook and in each st of ch; 8 loops, work pat. until there are 22 loops on hook; work off loops. Work on these 22 sts for 2½ ins." My first issue is that when I "draw up a loop" in every stitch of the chain I end up with 9 loops on my hook, not 8. Not a big deal, I figured that's such a small difference I can work with it, it'd be fine. But with the next part, I literally have no idea what it means. How do I get 22 loops out of 8 (or 9)? Am I supposed to draw these off of the hook first, and then increase in that new section until I have 22 loops? It states that I'm supposed to work on these 22 stitches, so obviously that number is important, but it doesn't give me any instruction as to how to do that. My first instinct was to work the loops off of the crochet hook before increasing, but if I do that it makes a foundation that is significantly smaller than what 22 stitches from the get-go would give me. Why wouldn't I just chain 22 or 23 to start? I've looked online to no avail, and there's no way to contact the creator of the pattern that I can find. You can view the full pattern here Men's Afghan Stitch Gloves Pattern. (I figured once I started that "Afghan Stitch" is either another name or a type of Tunisian crochet; correct me if I'm wrong! Also, it might just be me, but the way this pattern is written gives me a headache--it's just the best I could find without having to knit with a set of double pointed knitting needles, and that seemed harder than figuring this type of pattern out). I'm bolding my two questions just because I know I've written a lot, so hopefully it's easier to read. I'm also adding a series of photos to show how I'm interpreting the first portion of the instructions for the thumb. I feel like I don't even know enough to try and guess around until I figure something out! This is my first time working with this type of stitch, and I've loved working in it so far--if I can just figure out what they mean by this one part, I think I should be able to finish this pattern and make a beautiful pair of gloves. Thank you!

    Looking for Pattern

Hello, I'm looking to find a pattern for this Cowl. Or at least some idea for that "X" portion.
  4. Hoping somebody can help. I am trying this pattern http://www.yarnspirations.com/on/demandware.static/-/Sites-master-catalog-spinrite/default/dw6d218def/PDF/BRC0202-002792M.pdf I am really confused about the MC instructions, particularly with beg row 3 where the chart comes in. Do I do 2 dc in each stitch, or do I do 1dc in 2 stitches to make the “block”. For the space, do I miss one dc for each space as in row 2, or do I just do ch1 1dc in each stitch? I’m doing something wrong because I cannot keep the right count according to the chart after trying this several ways. Sorry for the probably basic questions. I’ve never used a chart before and it’s a bit confusing to me.

    Plarn Hobo Purse Pattern

Here is my latest little recycled bag project. It's a Hobo plarn purse crocheted with recycled brown Safeway bags. I used a K crochet hook to work this purse so it's a little smaller than the original Hobo purse pattern. I did one extra row before doing the top narrowing final rounds. Finished size is 9 inches wide by 7-1/2 inches long.

    Help reading pattern for slippers

Hi all. I'm very much a beginner when it comes to crochet. I've only done practice things, like a few coasters and a cozy. I wanted to move onto something a little (only a little!) more complex, so I found a pattern on redheart.com for some some simple slippers. Here's the link: http://www.redheart.com/files/patterns/pdf/WR2031.pdf I was doing fine until row 14. I don't really understand how I'm supposed to end up with 21 stitches when I only chained 14 in the row before. I'm sure I'm missing something. Am I reading the instructions incorrectly? Any help is appreciated. Thanks! Bridgette
  7. Hi, I'm new to crochet and so far so good but now stuck on a pattern step. Say: rounds 8-12 dc all sts (42 sts). Does this mean 42 sts in total or 5x rounds of 42? Picture for ref

    Unclear directions

I’m using N hook with Homespun Thick & Quick yarn. My problem is that I don’t understand the last bit of round 1 where it says “hdc in top of beginning ch-2 - 4 corner ch-2 space”. It’s tge “4 corner” direction that has me perplexed—what is it asking me to do? I added a picture of the directions. Thanks!

    General help

Me again! Everyone was so helpful when I was making my bunny that I am back here again to ask for your help :-) im about to start a simple blanket, but the pattern will make a 2.4m x .8m blanket. I’d like it to be square. my question is, as it’s done in single crochet, with a chain of 50 and has just short of 100rows, is it as simple as doubling my chain length to 100 to make the chain length similar to the amount of rows? And if so, do I use double the yarn yardage or only 50% more? Thankyou in advance :-)
  13. Hi, me again! After people were so helpful yesterday on my increased I thought I’d ask about decreases today. pattern reads: *dec, 3dc, repeat from * to end (24sts) so I know I’m decreasing from 30stitches to 24, so a decrease of 6. However, I seem to be decreasing much more rapidly... I have read the pattern as: decrease to start, then 3 stitches, followed by another decrease. But this then decreases the round by 10 and not 6.... what am I doing wrong? Am I doing my actual decrease stitch wrong, or am I doing the decrease too soon? see picture for pattern, I’m on round 21, already completed 20 and despite doing it wrong I think I will leave it as is... thanks for any help guys! Visual is very useful for me :-)

    Pattern help

Hello! I've recently started crocheting and am working on my second blanket. The pattern is called "Remembering Bruges Throw" and is a Red Heart pattern. I have completed the main part of the blanket but am stuck on the bruges edging. For some reason I always end up at the wrong end of the row and am unable to connect to the blanket with a slip stitch! Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!! *I have attached the pattern which has the photos referenced below* Bruges Edging Row 1 (right side): Ch 10, dc in the 6th ch from the hook (beginning skipped ch do not count as a st) and in each remaining ch, ch 2; with right side of either short side of edging base facing, join with slip st in first ch-5 space, turn— 5 dc. (See Photo A) Row 2: Ch 2, dc in each dc across, turn. Row 3: Ch 5, dc in each dc across, ch 2; join with slip st in next ch-5 space, turn. At this point, I always end up on the wrong end of the row where I am unable to do a slip st in the ch-5 space. Not sure if I am just turning at the wrong time or duplicating a step but it is getting frustrating. Rows 4–65: Repeat last 2 rows 31 times. Row 66: Repeat Row 2. Row 67: Ch 5, dc in each dc across, ch 2; join with slip st in same ch-5 space as previous join, turn. Row 68: Repeat Row 2. Row 69: Working in first ch-5 space of next side, repeat Row 3. Row 70: Repeat Row 2. Row 71: Repeat Row 67. (See photo B) LW5709-Remembering-Bruges-Throw-Free-Crochet-Pattern.pdf
  17. Hi there, I don't suppose anyone on here has the book mentioned above? It mentions that you can add a hood to your doll's jacket but I can't find the pattern for the hood anywhere in the book. Am I missing something? If anyone does know where to find it could you please tell me the page number? Thank you!

    58 dc and 5 ch 1 spaces

Hi, I'm a newbie. My purpose for starting crochet is because my quadriplegic mother is always needing new shawls, and I found a wheelchair shawl pattern, which is a gift from above! I hope to make a lot for many people if I can figure it all out! :-) I'm still working out how to read patterns, and I've come to the above step. I am to double crochet 58, make 5 chains, and what--leave one empty chain? I don't understand the 1 space(s) thing.

    Help Me With Turning Please

I also have a question myself, if someone could help. I'm working with a sweater pattern, and when I reached the end of my first row (using double crochet), it says, chain 3 turn 3, then continues on with the pattern for that row. So my question is, what does turn three mean? Nothing I can find on the internet is helping. From this: "repeat ** until the end of the row sk 3 , 1dc, ch 3 turn 3. Ch5, 1sc in the first ch space,"
  24. Hello, I'm new to the forum and also fairly new to crocheting. I have a pattern for two amigurumi dogs i got from a magazine but I'm unsure of how to get started as the directions don't specify how long my chain should be. It just says 1ch and then 8 dbl stch. I'll attach images to show you. Any help would be great! Thank you Linda

    Extra large rose help

Hi, I've been working on making this beautiful toque originally by Magic Doll, but I am now having difficulties with the flower. Every pattern I find isnt the right stitch/look. Would anyone happen to know a good pattern or video I could follow to recreate this? Any size is fine, I'll adjust to make it this large. Also, I'm looking for the red parts, the black parts seem to be a faux fur yarn she has added in. If I were more trusting of online shopping, I would gladly buy it, I find it stunning. I've included the link below as well as attached pictures. http://www.dezzal.com/hats/petal-knitted-hit-color-hat-p_63812.html Thank you!
