  1. what caused puckering or curling in a thread crochet doily, is it hook size? I am using what the pattern says to use size "7" and which way do you go on size, bigger? I have made one before and didn't have this issue.
  2. Hello, I'm newly returned to crochet after 40 years. I'm working on a dollhouse project and some miniatures. I wanted to crochet the mom a nice shawl and the baby a blanket, plus some floor rugs. I'm having trouble deciding on the thread and hook. My dollhouse is smaller than the usual 1:12 scale and is instead the 1:24 scale (1/2" = 1'). I've tried some small Perle Cotton (sz 8) with a 1mm hook, and even though the thread is soft, it appears too big for my scale. I had some sz 20 Tatting thread on hand and tried it using the 1mm hook but the thread basically is too stiff, standing up instead of wrapping gently around my tiny babies. I'm considering Perle Cotton (sz 12) but don't know if that would make a difference. Any other ideas or suggestions? I would really appreciate your input! Thanks, Erica

    tension

If the pattern tension is 14 sc =10 cm on 5mm/H/8 hook but the yarn says 12 sc =10 cm on a 6mm hook. What size hook should I use to get the correct size? Larger hook or smaller hook?
  4. There are hundreds of beautiful doily diagrams on the internet, but how do you know what hook size and thread combination to use to make them when they aren't listed? Is it just trial and error?
