  1. We are finally going to get a Crochet Guild of America local chapter going here in the Huntsville area. A friend of mine, Susan Cowan, is scheduling a first meeting for us and putting a promotional flyer together. As soon as she has it ready, I'll post it here for everyone to see. If you're interested in having me sending you a PM with the meeting information, post here. We'll have monthly meetings, show and tell, informal classes, and we're not sure what else at this point. It will be whatever the members want it to be.
  2. If we started a CGOA (Crochet Guild of America) Cyber Chapter for Crochetville members, would you be interested in being part of the group? Group members would work together to determine how the group should function, but some possibilities include: No chapter member dues, but members would be encouraged to join the national organization if possible Members select one or two charities to support as a group Informal lessons taught by a group member (via text, photos, and/or video) Show and tell Monthly chat sessions (either in a chat room or a discussion thread) Anything else the group can dream up In person meetings at the national conferences for those who are able to attend
  3. I'm trying to start my new career as a contract crocheter. It was one of the reasons I joined CGOA and attained associate professional recognition. Is it really that hard to get started? I joined Ravelry test groups, self promote, follow designer blogs and it seems that it's a slow moving process.

    Crochet Crown

Here is a crochet crown I made to wear in the booth at the CGOA Chain Link conferences and Stitches events this year. It's made from Filatura Di Crosa's New Smoking yarn in Silver. This is the crown with some white paper inserted in the middle so you can get a better idea of the stitch pattern. I'm going to try to take better pictures tomorrow, since these don't really show just how absolutely sparkly and divine it is! I stiffened it with a boiled cornstarch mixture. It's quite sturdy.
  5. The CGOA Chain Link conference in Reno, NV begins with Professional Development Day on Wednesday, September 12 followed by 4 days of crochet (and knitting) classes and 3 days of fabulous shopping opportunities on the show floor. I will be arriving on Monday, September 10. If anybody else is attending, please post here. Crochetville Vendor Booth This year, Crochetville will have a vendor booth on the show floor in conjunction with Red Heart. We will be selling a number of Red Heart yarns, primarily the new Boutique line, crochet hooks and accessories, crochet-themed jewelry, books, and patterns. We hope to have a number of book signings by some of your favorite crochet designers. If there's something in particular you'd like to see in our booth, please let us know. If you'd like to volunteer to help out in the booth, let us know. It's a great way to meet a lot of people and talk crochet! Conference Classes If you're attending, what classes are you taking? Let us know here. Maybe you'll find there will be a Crochetville friend in class with you. I'll be attending Professional Development Day, but I won't be taking any actual crochet classes since I'll be staffing the booth all the time the show floor is open. Roommate Finder If you'd like to have a roommate to help cut down on the expense of attending the conference, please post here. Be sure to include any special needs, such as: Do you go to bed early or late? Do you smoke? (Even though the hotel rooms are non-smoking, some people's allergies could be affected by rooming with a smoker.) Do you have pets at home? (I have 5 cats, and I know I bring some amount of cat hair with me whenever I travel. I'd hate this to bother someone with severe cat allergies.) Do you like to bring friends back to the hotel room for big chat sessions? Do you have any allergies? (perfume, hair products, lotions, etc.) Do you snore? Does someone else's snoring bother you? Are you a heavy or light sleeper? Do you like to have the TV on all the time? When will you arrive? When will you check out? The more information you can give to a prospective roommate, the better chance you'll be able to find a good match.
  6. Hi all! If you are a CGOA member and are going to be attending the 2012 Chain Link in Manchester, won't you consider volunteering to wind yarn at the conference. I would like to have enough volunteers so that there are 2 people together in 2 hour slots. It was fun last year in Minneapolis, and was a great opportunity to pet all the yarns that come through! Please email me at: reneeATcrochetreneeDOTcom Thanks!
  7. What: STITCHES Loves Crochet hosted by The Crochet Dude When: Thursday, February 23, 2012 from 9:00 PM to midnight Where: Hyatt Regency Santa Clara Magnolia Room Drew Emborsky, aka The Crochet Dude, is hosting a special "hook up" called "STITCHES Loves Crochet." This very informal gathering is free to attend. Come check out some of Drew's newest designs as well as the latest designs and accessories from other crochet designers and STITCHES sponsors. You can even bring your own designs, crocheted garments, enthusiasm or curiosity, and plan to share and spend a great fun evening with fellow crochet enthusiasts! To help Drew get an idea of how many people will be there, please RSVP here. (Sorry, that's a facebook page, and you'll need a facebook account to RSVP.) In addition to Drew, you'll also get to see **ME** at this event! I'll be at STITCHES West all week long in the CGOA booth on the show floor and at at the pajama party Friday night in addition to Drew's event. I can't wait to see all the crochet inspiration!!
