  1. I usually make changes in patterns. I tell my crochet students that a pattern is a starting off place and if they don't like something in the pattern they should change it. Some students find that freeing and some find it terrifying but it definitely gets them to think about the pattern.
  2. Bergen County for years, now Passaic County....I loved the Ode to New Jersey
  3. Where do you keep your hooks? In a case that I crocheted, in a mug, in a vase, in two other cases and in a rollup case. I teach crochet and have hooks that I take to class, hooks that I use at home, afghan hooks for class and generally have hooks all over the place Do you block stuff? Yes Do you dream "in crochet"? Not yet, but I plan projects to help me get to sleep. Unfortunately, I get so excited about the project that sometimes I have to get up and start it. Biggest think you ever crocheted? Smallest? A blanket, a bookmark Where do you keep your WIPs? In totebags in my studio, one totebag beside my chair in the living room and one totebag in the car. Do you make things for yourself? Once in awhile.
  4. First thing you ever crocheted? I think it was a scarf. So many years ago I don't remember Strangest place you have crocheted? I crocheted a granny square blanket lying flat on my back recuperating from back surgery Fave thing to make? Scarves and sweaters Do you do charity stuff? If so, what? Yes, I'm making scarves for the Dulan Project Fave yarn? Merino wool or really nice cotton Fave hook? Size? Boye or Bates? J hook is my fav...I don't care about the brand. I know the differences but it doesn't have any impact on my crocheting Hardest thing you ever crocheted? A vest with really bad directions Is there anything about crochet that completely stumps you? Not yet
  5. Thanks everyone for the lovely welcome. I'm looking forward to spending lots of time here. Holly http://journal.aol.com/hlaibson/HaveYouAnyWool/
  6. I tried to join and couldn't. Is the crochet along closed? I know I'm a late for this one but I've always wanted to do this afghan with scrap yarn and make it like an old patchwork quilt. I'm going to go ahead and start anyway. Holly Layne
  7. That shawl is gorgeous. I bet you'll love wearing it. Hollylayne
  8. I can't remember if I introduced myself or not, so I'll do it now and hope I'm not repeating myself. I live in NJ, have two grown kids that live on their own, a grandson and a husband. The husband lives with me. I've been crocheting and knitting for a long time and teach a lot of crochet classes. I love to teach. I think I learn as much as my students. Right now I'm working on finishing up about 10 projects. It's killing me not to start something new. I have a blog at http//journals.aol.com/hlaibson/HaveYouAnyWool/. I'm happy to be here. Holly
  9. I'm a jersey-ite....Passaic county. Was in Bergen county for years. Holly L
  10. Hi, I have a question. Are felting and fulling the same thing? I have crocheted a bag and have yet to felt it. I think I'm afraid to through it in the wash. I read somewhere that I should put it in a pillowcase to avoid messing up my washing machine. Any advice? Holly L
  11. I've recently become obsessed with freeform and yesterday I bought Jenny Dowde's book, and a couple of others. I also recently bought Prudence Mapstones book and I'm making a collection of motifs to make a tote bag out of. I love the books, because they give me inspiration. Holly
  12. Hi, I'm new here but this is something I've been meaning to do forever. Is it still open for joining or have you all finished. Holly
  13. Hi, I'm new here and thought I'd make a quick introduction. I live in New Jersey and teach a bunch of crochet classes in various places. When I'm not teaching or on the computer I'm crocheting. It's a great life. Holly
