  1. I was wondering if there are any tips for finding the starting end in a new skein of yarn. I often pull out the end of a skein instead of the beginning and that causes a mess. Thank you.
  2. These aren't my scarves. I came across them while blog-hopping. I especially like the carrot one: http://www.twinkiechan.com/blog/2009/10/28/a-few-quick-scarfy-snaps/
  3. I just love it. It's neat how it's finsihed on the back with fabric too.
  4. http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25387228&ref=sr_gallery_13&&ga_search_query=baby+blanket&ga_search_type=&ga_page=&order=date_desc&includes[]=tags&includes[]=title Thank you!
  5. Ooh, I didn't see that about the crocheted tablecloths-how beautiful!
  6. I don't know anything about this wedding, it's a link I came across while reading someone's photography blog. Is this crochet (or machine-made lace) on this wedding gown? I couldn't tell for sure. If you scroll through the photos, you can see some close-up pics of the dress: http://thenicholsblog.com/2009/08/09/amy-greg/ Either way, I love the dress!
  7. Hey, thanks so much! I just love this site! I had all of the patterns I "seek" at one time, but they were all lost/stolen in a move. It's only when I see pictures of finished items from patterns I used to have that I'm reminded of what's missing. This scarf was one of my favorites.
  8. I think it was a freebie leaflet I had picked up at either Walmart or Hobby Lobby.
  9. I had that pattern but it was lost/stolen in a move. I can't remember if I had torn it from a magazine or if it was in a booklet.
  10. I can think of Mary Maxim and Herrschners. Any others that send out free catalogs?
  11. Before my Mom pased away she made me some thread flowers that had 5 rows of petals (not just 5 total petals). They are about 2 or 3 inches in diameter finished. I'm not smart enough to adapt other thread flower patterns to five rows. Has anyone seen a pattern like this? I searched for over an hour the other day and didn't find one. Thank you
  12. I've been making little flowers either using thread or skeins of embroidery floss. I use them in scrapbooking or as pins on sweaters, hats, etc. I have the patterns I've been using memorized, but there are a tons of them out there if you google them.
  13. Where do you think that gal on Etsy is getting her patterns? Sounds like they are from Japanese books-she mentions selling her other Japanese book- or maybe she designs them from scratch? What talent!
  14. Ooh, those are cute! I had no idea until this thread that patterns were sold on Etsy. I could spend a fortune on just patterns!
  15. Just a Joanns. It's going to be almost right across the street from a Michaels.
  16. No, that's not the pattern. Thank your for posting that, though- those are cute. What I was trying to find looked just like the ones in the Etsy link posted above.
  17. Wow! That's so close to what they looked liked. I didn't know Etsy people could sell patterns! Cool!
  18. A friend of mine had bought the most real-looking crocheted cupcakes I've ever seen at a craft sale. I spent an hour yesterday looking for a pattern like that. I found many cupcake patterns but none like what she bought (plus I wound up craving cake ). The crocheted frosting looks swirled (like Dairy Queen soft serve ice cream). Has anyone seen a pattern like this? ETA: My friend also bought a "baker's dozen" crocheted cookie set from the same lady. Each of the 13 cookies looks different. For example, one cookie had frosting on top, one had frosting in the middle, etc. (They aren't just the same pattern repeated in different yarn colors). So, I'm also trying to find different-style cookie patterns too. So far I've just found Oreo and chocolate chip patterns.
  19. Thanks so much for your help and the links! Those patterns are very similar to what I remember seeing on the blog. The blog lady posted what was her original pattern, but those you posted are close enough for me-they are beautiful!
  20. While reading a thread about must-have crochet supplies, someone mentioned that she doesn't use a yarn winder to make balls from yarn. Instead, she said she learned to wind balls of yarn herself so that the yarn threads from the center of the ball (like it can from a skein). Does anyone have a link that explains how to do that? Thanks!
  21. I'm so excited- I am getting a new Joanns store near my home. I've never been in one. Are there any neat crochet items that Joanns sells that can't be found at Michaels or Hobby Lobby? (both of which are near me). Thanks! It's opening soon.
  22. They were attached after the afghan was made if I remember correctly. I had insomnia last night and while looking on Etsy a 3:00 am, I found a very similar one for sale to the one I remember seeing. If it's ok to post that link, here is a picture: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=sr_gallery_11&listing_id=14926009
