  1. I'm in Garfield Heights, OH, just a bit south and and east of Cleveland. I'd love to meetup with crocheters that live in in this area (Garfield Hts, Maple Hts., Independence, Bedford, Cleveland, Parma). There are already a lot of West side groups, but those places are like 40 minutes away from me
  2. I mostly crochet, but I learned how to knit as well. I also occasionally cross stitch and sew. I want to learn to quilt. When I was a kid I was so bad at motor skills it's always been my dream to design and stitch a sampler that says: "I've finally learned to cross stitch, sew ,knit, quilt and crochet! Miracles can happen everyday!"
  3. I heard part of an interview with the author of the book the show is based on, and I was surprised to find out she had gone to prison and so the show was very authentic in terms of her experience. The interviewer asked her what she had found most surprising and she said that she was surprised how the "womanly arts" of "cooking, crocheting, sewing" are so important in prison culture. Here's a link to the interview if you're interested: http://hereandnow.wbur.org/2013/07/29/orange-new-black
  4. When I crochet I feel like I'm changing chaos into order, and I feel soothed and productive. When I crochet I feel like another woman in a long line of billions of women throughout history who have made things to take care of themselves and their families. When I crochet, I increase my ability to be patient and to persevere, and I gain new understanding of what my mom always says -"If it's worth doing, it's worth doing well." When I finish a crocheted project, I admire each individual stitch I've made. I know that if I approach difficult things in my life with this "one stitch at a time" philosophy, I can handle difficult things and I can do great things. I have no idea how I survived before I learned to crochet.
  5. I'm 34 and started crocheting when I was 19.
  6. They also show the women wearing really cool billed hats (newsboys). I've been searching all over for the pattern and found a few similar things on etsy.
  7. Hi everyone! I've been crocheting for 15 years, but usually I stick to making ripple afghans and aminekos. I look forward to making some friends here and expanding my crochet horizons. G

  9. That is incredible! May I ask where the pattern is from?
