  1. Another leftover yarn project. I’m not sure about this one. I’m out of yarn for it as well.
  2. Hi ladies. We are finally enjoying some springlike weather, (although it’s cool for June). I think we are going to go out to Lake Michigan this evening and hike. Dh wants to take sunset pictures so we won’t go until after dinner. I am really enjoying retirement, although it still feels odd, not having to go anywhere first thing in the morning! I overdid things a bit last week, and my back and knees let me know about it. I got a lot of weeding and tiger outside work done though. I have lots more to do, but I am waiting for my new garden kneeler/bench to arrive. That will make things easier in both my knees and my back. Surprisingly, I don’t really miss work, although I do miss my co-workers. I have had lots of time to sew, knit and crochet. Hopefully, I will finish a few UFOs! I’ve also done some deep cleaning that I haven’t gotten to in a long time. Here is one one of my leftover yarn projects. It’s a blanket, straight knitting, I just grab a ball out of the bag and knit until it’s gone. Right now I am out of leftovers for this one.
  3. Hello ladies. First day of retirement. I’m trying to work out a bit of a routine, so that I don’t fritter my days away. I started out bright and early this morning with a visit to the lab for a blood draw. ( those are back already, and all normal). I then spent 30 minutes exercising, 15 minutes weeding, ( all my back could do) and did some laundry. I think the weeding and exercising will become part of my daily routine, unless it’s too hot to weed. It’s chilly here today, so I started soup in the crockpot for dinner. I’m on a mission to use up all the leftovers in the freezer. We used to eat them on days I worked, but we won’t need them for that anymore. That took up my morning. Since lunch I’ve been sitting around, crocheting, knitting and reading and telling myself that I would get back to work after the next row or chapter. So far I haven’t!:) My boss hosted a retirement tea for me on Friday . Many former co-workers as well as some retired ICU doctors came. It was really fun to reminisce with them as well as visit with my current co-workers. I received a lot of gifts which was totally unexpected! Brenda, so glad you got all those issues straightened out. You would think that things could move faster, since it’s all computerized. (No dreams about work yet!) Mary, it’s good to hear that dd’s shop is doing so well. Those kittens are adorable and I bet the boys just love them. iPad is warning me that it’s about to quit...better push submit....
  4. Hi ladies. I too am sorry I’ve been MIA, just had a lot going on, but it will soon be at an end. I resigned from my job, (last day is next Thursday), and I am going to enjoy the life of a retiree. It’s kind of bittersweet. I love a lot of things about my job and I will miss it. However, my back, knees and hips are telling me it’s time to go. I did read through the posts I missed. Brenda, you granny ripples and the stockings are great. It was my plan to make a bunch of stockings for this years drive, but I haven’t got to it. Judy, love your afghan. Mary, ds’s doctor told him that everyone in Michigan is vitamin D deficient. I never had my levels checked, but my doctor told me I should take it, so I do. Luckily it’s not a high dose, so it doesn’t bother me. Hope the lower dose works for you. Oh....the kittens are adorable! I bet the boys are thrilled with them. And congrats to Zach! I have pretty much used up all my “golf balls” of leftover yarn on a knitted afghan. Just a few to go and I can start making more golf balls. Say, maybe I will actually get things finished when I retire!
  5. Good morning. It finally looks like spring here. Leaves are out and the grass needs mowing. I have been so busy running around that I haven’t done any crafting of any sort for quite a while. However, I think that things will slow down a bit soon. One of my co-workers taught another co-worker to crochet, and she turned out a baby blanket in just a few days. She also taught her to knit, and for her first project she is doing socks. She is clearly a lot more ambitious than I am. Wonder if I should warn her about stash acquisition syndrome? She has ordered two of the Attic 24 yarn packs already, and has discovered more yarn shops in the area than I knew existed. Guess it’s too late to warn her! Re-downsizing. I think it’s hard for almost everyone. My parents solved the problem by simply choosing a 3500 square foot condo in a senior complex. (Bigger than their house). My in-laws simply waited until they were too frail to take care of it, and both ended up in a nursing home. (Let the kids do it!). I have never seen more useless stuff in one small 2 bedroom apartment. My mil saved absolutely everything. Even her old worn out underwear got washed, folded and boxed up for storage in the basement. Luckily my fil was not a pack rat, so it could have been worse. Judy, pretty blanket. I always struggle a bit with edges. You sure are busy making things. well, better get going on housework. 😞
  6. Hi Marlene. Glad you made it back safely.
  7. Hi ladies. 75 degrees out there today. Just 7 days ago we had 6 or more inches of snow on the ground! The daffodils are blooming and Dd has 5 baby robins in the wreath by her front door. I guess it’s spring! i has one of those weeks. Every day was filled with obligations. I have the next three days off still and have no plans. I’m looking forward to doing nothing for a day!
  8. Hi ladies. Snowing hard here. There’s at least an inch on the ground. We are supposed to get up to 5 inches, but hopefully it will stop soon. We were supposed to have grandkids over last night, but they are sick so we went out to the lake instead. It was cold out there, but we were bundled up and walked along the boardwalk for a bit. Nice blanket Judy. Mary, so glad the worst of the storm missed you. Mona, continued good thoughts for you and hubby.
  9. What a cute way to announce their marriage!
  10. Hi ladies. Nothing much happening here. I haven’t been crafting much, just knitting a bit on a scrap yarn blanket and a little bunny. I’ve been reading a lot. It’s been really nice weather here for the most part so some yard work got done as well. Since I have told myself that I can’t start any new craft projects, I have been quite unproductive Judy, that afghan is so pretty but...I have to say, just looking at that crab stitch border makes my hands hurt! Mary Jo, your dolls are so lovely, and it’s so sweet that you are sending them off to a nursing home.
  11. Hi ladies. Nothing much happening here. (That’s a good thing!). Even the weather has been normal. Judy, that blanket is beautiful. And....I haven’t started a new project.....yet.... Mona, ,hope they have found dh’s blood leak. Mary, I just had to switch my PCP as well. My old one moved his office about 50 miles away. I don’t want to drive that far. Hope you are all all doing well.
  12. Well, I sympathize. On the other hand, it’s nice to not be the only one!
  13. Hi ladies. Not a lot going on here. The sun is shining here, and there are even some birds singing. Hopefully this marks the end of winter! Nice projects Judy and Brenda. Thinking of you and your hubby, Mona. Mary, the weather sure has delivered some tough blows lately hope things are back to normal for you. I went back back to work this weekend and ended up working both days at another hospital in the same company. (Only critical care nurses float between hospitals.). It’s a lot lower key at that hospital than my usual work place. It was actually a really good weekend. I havent done much crafting lately, although I did get out my scrap blanket last night. What I really want is to start a new project. I have enough stash to do that, but my WIPs are out of control. I need to finish a few things. It’s a good thing I’m not crafting out of necessity! Hope you are all all doing well.
  14. Hi ladies. Had to laugh at today’s weather forecast. Periods of sun and clouds, rain, sleet and snow expected. That forecaster is determined to get something right! I am finally feeling better. Still have the sniffles, but I feel fine. So the last few days have been spent restoring order to the house! One of my grandsons was so impressed by the neck warmers I gave them that he wants to learn how to crochet. He’s not sure what he wants to make though. Mona, sending hugs and good thoughts. Hope hubby does well with chemo. Have a a great rest of the weekend!
  15. Hi ladies. Still have that cold, although it’s much improved, and I have energy to get stuff done again. It’s still very cold, and snowing. However we are supposed to be close to 50 degrees on Sunday. Yesterday, the grandkids came over and despite the -10 windchill, they insisted on tobogganing for hours. Of course they were freezing out there. So....I made all of them a cowl/ neckwarmer, plus I made a hat for the oldest grand daughter. I got a bunch of bulky yarn for 99 cents a skein last winter. Only thing is, once I got it home, I had no clue what to use it for. I still have quite a bit left, but at least this made a dent in it. Mary, I avoid driving in snow if possible. Ice is even worse. Hope dh’s visit with the surgeon went well. We feed the birds too. It’s nice to see them fluttering around when everything else is so gloomy. We live in the woods so we get a lot of birds. Mona, sending hugs. Judy, thanks for the eye candy. Love the frog! Brenda, our church was cancelled a Sunday because of high winds. It was snowing as well, but I think they were concerned about whiteouts.
  16. Hi ladies. Another winter storm watch here, and it’s snowing at the moment. The forecast is for another 6 inches. When is spring? I took some vacation time from work and am off for the next 2 1/2 weeks. On Sunday I came down with a doozy of a cold. I was supposed to work, but I ended up being mandated to stay home. I didn’t want to call in, because if you call in sick on a weekend, you have to make it up, so it was a welcome phone call. I have done nothing much since Sunday. I’m still hoping to get lots of cleaning and downsizing done.
  17. Hi ladies, sorry that I’ve been so quiet. I’ve been in the mood to clean, and I thought I had better take advantage of it! I totally revamped our master bedroom closet. I bought all new organizers and even managed to get hubby on board with sorting his belongings. It looks great! Unfortunately, the mood has now passed! Judy and Mary, your afghans are gorgeous. Our weather has improved a bit. It was actually above freezing today. I’m sure winter is far from over, but it’s nice to get a bit of a break! enjoy your evening!
  18. So...it is still snowing, but tomorrow we get a reprieve! It’s going to switch over to a “wintry mix”. Around here that means freezing rain, snow and sleet all mixed together. I knew that I should have worried about January and February when it was 50 and 60 degrees much of December. Still, Spring is closer than it was yesterday, and my grandsons are excite. They love snow!
  19. Hi ladies. We are in the middle of another big snowstorm. We got around 8 inches overnight, plus at least another 4 today. It’s still snowing! We had our oldest grandson over for his birthday visit today. We just got back from taking him home. He stayed over last night and he would have liked to stay tonight as well, (and we would have loved to have him), but he is homeschooled and he hates to get off schedule, so he opted for home. We went out for burgers and then took him home. Driving was not the greatest, but it could have been much worse. (And sadly, we are getting used to it.) I dug out my Sophie’s universe afghan that I started a year or two ago. It was kind of hard to figure out where I was on it. I need to start adding notes to my UFOs .
  20. Hi ladies. Still cold here and still quite a number of people without power. Plus, another ice/snow storm headed our way starting tomorrow evening. The roads are good right now. Im hoping that they stay that way at least through tomorrow morning. I need to go to work for some mandatory education stuff before the beginning of March. Plus, I need to get a new parking pass, so I can continue to park onsite. Our internet came back yesterday, and we never lost power, although many in our area did. When we went to church this morning, we must have seemn at least 10 power company trucks out and about. I can’t say that I missed the internet much. I don’t need it to read or crochet, but Dh likes to watch Netflix, so he missed it. I’m ready for spring!
  21. Mary that is a lovely afghan. You have such a knack for combining colors. We are buried in ice. We still have power, but our internet is out. Lots of trees are down causing a lot of damage. One of my co workers had a tree fall on her house today. 3 holes in her roof, plus a deck demolished. We lost a tree and have a lot of big branches down. Many people are without power. More ice is expected this evening, Followed by snow. I’m so ready for spring!
  22. Mona those shawlettes are beautiful!
  23. Mona, so sorry to hear of hubby’s test results. Judy, we are starting to warm up too, although it doesn’t sound like we will make it to 50.
  24. Hello ladies. Today the sun is shining and my new stove was delivered. However they broke one of the oven doors. It has been temporarily replaced with a slate colored door, until the new stainless one comes in. So, maybe my new Kindle will show up today too. It was supposed to be my birthday present, but the tracking keeps saying it’s been delayed. It was shipped via UPS and I saw the truck in our neighborhood yesterday, so I know they were out delivering things. just in case it doesn’t come, I thought I’d buy myself a few things, so I did a little online shopping this morning, plus somewhere I saw that Herschners has a huge yarn sale tomorrow. Probably a good thing that I have to work I certainly don’t need yarn! Last night I made Dh a ski mask to wear while shoveling and so forth he said his face got cold right away.
