Help! My pattern says "3 hdc decrease into 1" -- what the ehck does that mean? How can you put three of these stitches in one if they all take up two stitches each? Thank you!

Hi there, I purchased a pattern and I can't figure it out for the life of me: here it is: Using green yarn, ch 36, Rnd 1: Hdc into the 3rd ch from the hook, hdc in next 6 ch, [3 hdc in next ch] repeat twice, hdc in next 5 ch, [3 hdc decrease into 1] repeat twice, hdc in next 5 ch, [3 hdc in next ch] repeat twice, hdc in next 7 ch, ch 2, sl st into the last ch. Finich off. Is it just me or is the pattern instructing me to do more than 36 stitches. Am I missing something? Thank you! Kate
