  1. terms like Aran sweater, or cable sweater as opposed to irish cardigan? the white is often referred to as Aran, so that might help. good luck!
  2. great ideas and links, i really appreciate your help!
  3. what to make, what to make? help! anyone? with a birthday in July, it's hard to make him things. if anyone has ideas, please let me know cause I am stumped here! I was so busy crocheting for a wedding we're going to this weekend, that I plum forgot about a good friend's son's birthday coming up in about 3 weeks! any level of difficulty is fine, i just need ideas or links! He is going to be a big brother in October so any ideas i don't use now, i will use when i make him his own special "big brother" gift when we get to meet the baby. TIA so much!
  4. Hi all, calling on you for help again! My friend is due with a girl in October. She has a boy who is 23 months already. I am debating whether to make a blanket or something else, like a sweater or something, as we are in wisconsin and it has been known to snow then LOL. any suggestions? TIA!
  5. can anyone help? i would prefer something that is one solid color, or join as you go, not a lot of squares. I'm paralyzed with too many of my own options right now, I can't decide. can you help me? LOL TIA
  6. i was just over there earlier and i saw one, for an afghan. if you don't have a membership already, let me know and i'll paste a direct link to it for you hth
  7. http://www.sugarncream.com/pattern.php?PID=1115 and there are a few tank/halter type tops in this collection: http://www.berroco.com/galleries/gallery_30free/source/15.aphrodite.html hth
  8. I am ISO an afghan pattern to get rid of mostly earth-toned yarn that is clogging up my present stash. I have gold, pumpkin, buff, black and white that I think could gel together. I was going to make the Salem afghan, but before I get a good start on it, I thought some of you might have a good pattern in mind. I don't care if it's joining a bunch of squares or whatever, as long as it's not another ripple! TIA
  9. this is what i'm making: http://www.michaels.com/art/online/projectsheet?pid=e02284 I'm on the first row of decreases, and I think I've got it worked out (finally LOL). I just never in all my years of crocheting saw it refered to as "from" a row, usually I see, "beg row 4..." or see it explained differently than "from", it tripped me up! thanks to you all for confirming I'm not nutso. LOL.
  10. a pattern says "Unless specified, always decrease from Row 4 of pat st and increase from Row 7 of pat st"????? Would you think that decreasing "FROM" was meaning to do the decrease at the beginning of row 4, or after row 4 is completed? I assume it means at the beginning, but it might not work out that way, help anyone? TIA
  11. for the warm welcome, that is. I really appreciate it!
  12. Hi all, new here I just started working with thread about a week ago for the first time, after crocheting for over 20 years, and I LOVE IT! This is my first project and it's coming along nicely. Has anyone made this? http://www.michaels.com/art/online/projectsheet?pid=e02284 it's also at the dmc website, in .pdf format. I am using Caron's Grandma's Best in substitution for the dmc thread, as they are so similar in properties. Curious to know if anyone else has made it. The pattern calls for either leather or suede cords in the arms and the neck, and I plan to try and find some nice ribbon or substitute something else. Any suggestions? TIA
  13. Hi all, I am a member of some other online crochet/creative communities and have heard great things about this one, so thought I'd join. A bit about myself, I'm a 33 yo SAHM to a 2yo girl, who is the best thing that ever happened to me I have been crocheting on and off (mostly on) for over 20 years and more specifically almost daily for the last couple of years. I have just started re-teaching myself knitting this year, and have just started my first crochet thread project. I love learning new things, stitches, techniques, you name it. I also paint and bead and have a million other hobbies i love, but crochet i have a major passion for (it started when I was pregnant, getting obsessed with making my dd things LOL) and it's gotten to where I spend a good half hour-1 hour per day at least, looking at patterns, planning WIM's, and several hours per day crocheting. I also just got my first afghan hook and picked that up last week. nice to meet you all and i hope to learn and help others along the way as much as I can :-)
