  1. I am in Waterford and would be willing to drive to Mt. Morris once in awhile to crochet with friends. Allison
  2. :)Hi Michelle in Clarkston, this is Allison from Waterford. I have been crocheting for almost 40 years and consider myself an advanced crocheter. I have made everything from doilies and edgings with size 100 thread (which I can't find any more) to sweaters, afghans, dishcloths, slippers from a pattern of my own invention and just about anything else you can think of. I am a nursing student at Oakland Community College, starting May 9. I will have a short 7 week semester in the summer and then 7 weeks off before I start full time in the fall. So, if you think you might want to hang out at my house or yours somet ime to crochet together, let me know. I'd love to show you some of the things I have made and I am sure I could help you master stitches or techniques that are new to you.
  3. My suggestion would be to starch it wirh cornstarch first - very heavy starch - and then tack it to a fabric background with a thread and needle in a few places so it won't sag and then attach the fabric to the backboard. That way you can pull the fabric tight without damaging the crochet work and your work will retain it's shape over time. I starch all my thread crochet to keep it nice. I have pieces I starched over 25 years ago that still look good.
  4. Hi! I am a student too and, like you, crochet to still my mind once in awhile. I am a nursing student and soemtimes I just NEED to stop thinking. So I set aside a time each evening, between 8-10 p.m. when I crochet and watch an old movie on Turner Classic Movies to unwind before I go to bed.
