  1. I've been practicing on my own, and despite a few "snags" in the progress, I have now made two full projects. No pattern, just back & forth single crochet. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=622253&id=684895205&l=2e2712756a I'm working on a set of potholders now. After that will be the stuff for the two mommies-to-be. I have the yarn already for those. Please let me know if you have any advice for a beginner. Thanks again for all the help & kind words you guys.
  2. Those are all awesome. But I've gotten to a problem. I can't figure out how to do anything beyond a basic chain stitch. >.< I downloaded the pdf how-to's from Red Heart yarn, and another site, but neither is very helpful. I'm going to watch a couple of videos on YouTube tomorrow. I really REALLY want to learn to do this, and learn how NOT to hurt myself when I'm doing it. I'll check your tutorials, I hope they help me. I guess I'm just dense.
  3. Lynn, the statement about encouragement wasn't aimed at you, you weren't being discouraging, you were pointing out a simple fact. It is fully possible that if I attempt something waaaay too advanced, I would get frustrated and quit. I truly do appreciate all the input & help you guys, you're all great. I'm trying to find a balance in my life as well, right now, and the balance of down-to-earth levelheadedness combined with the words of encouragement here is fantastic. <3 Tanya, Lynn, Sorlena, Granny Square & Empress Busy Bee, thank you all VERY much for everything in this thread.
  4. Thank you, thank you, Grannysquare! I need all the encouragement I can get right now.
  5. I forgot to mention in my original post- I'm not really good with introductions, I either say too much or too little. If there's something I didn't say that I should have included, please let me know. Anything else, please ask.
  6. I may be new, but right now I'm swearing by ravelry.com. I was looking through their baby stuff last night, and they may have what you're wanting.
  7. Heh, how're you liking the crazy weather? Record lows one week, record highs the next? Gotta love OK weather. (I'm in Oklahoma as well. <3 )
  8. Thank you both for the input & advice! <3 I found some simple patterns on ravelry, and have "hooked" a bunch to try. I need a lot of house stuff anyhow, so if I have to step back from the gloves/legwarmers for a bit & make a ton of potholders to practice, I don't mind it.
  9. Okay, further digging here at the forums got me this link: http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=107872 Those are really cute, but should a beginner be trying this? They look a little more complicated than I might be ready for. I've seriously only made chains, never even a potholder or scarf. I think I'm going to have to start smaller & work up to this design.
  10. I love your profile picture! No kitty cat smilies? Thank you all for the welcome.
  11. Where can I find some decent (and easy) patterns for these? Are these even something a beginner should be attempting?? Thanks in advance, everyone.
  12. I'm new here, I posted on my Facebook that I was interested in learning to knit and/or crochet, and a friend of mine directed me here. I learned to crochet chains years ago from my aunt, but haven't toched a crochet hook in ages. Christmas 2009 my friends got me hemp and jewelry cording, and I got back into macrame. I've been thinking about crochet for about 2 months now. Just have to get supplies, and I'm going to start trying to remember what I knew, and learn new stuff. Any advice would be appreciated! Cara
