  1. With the cold here it is starting to feel more like a Christmas swap.
  2. There are supposed to be some good sales this weekend, but don't think with the impending snow I will get to any of them. However, if the power stays on there is always Internet shopping and my stash to work from once I know who my partner is for the swap.:lol
  3. This is adorable. I want to make some items like this for some younger relatives so they can have their own unbreakable Christmas village. It is all a matter of time.
  4. I had an Aunt who has been my crochet consultant, but my primary resource was books and DVD's. If I had access to a course I would have used one. I was talking to DH and said I need to find a knitting class because while I have been able to work through my crochet challenges I can't get anything done beyond a basic square with my knitting regardless of how many books I consult and while my Aunt can fix it when she has the time, I really need more steady help if I want to ever improve. There are more advanced crochet techniques I would like to eventually have the opportunity to take some classes on. I just need to find a local place that offers them that is affordable and that fits my learning style.
  5. Falling leaves is apt. I hate seeing Thanksgiving get trampled over in the rush to Christmas. I have fought the trend making Thanksgiving toys, decorations, and dolls dresses to send to the younger members of the family to get them excited and anticipating Thanksgiving. We always had HUGE family gatherings at my parent's home and as there were always TONS of kids some of my favorite memories are of the games and entertainments designed to keep the hoards entertained before the bird was ready for eating.
  6. For dog lovers, this time I checked that it is crochet because I am going to make a couple for the pups. Dog Paws Christmas Stocking
  7. Made progress on the last child afghan and some significant progress on Mom's. Found out my Aunt would be very happy with a RR which will be SO much easier and less time consuming. I need to get back to Thanksgiving, but this was a needed break from dollville.
  8. I get tons of family requests for the crocheted food. I even got Mom started making the knitted food. I have a page on my blog with free pattern links for food patterns for crocheted, knitted and even a couple loom knitted items. Based on the fact they keep asking for more stuff (of different kinds not the same items) I would say the stuff holds up well. I have several family members that are moving away from plastic toys, so the crochet food stuff has become a popular item for their play kitchens. Check your local library as well as there are several wonderful books with food crochet patterns. I have purchased a few of them because I use the patterns frequently for people who want toy kitchen items and they are my "go to" patterns for some of those items. However, you can preview the library copies to see if there is anything you would make frequently enough to bother purchasing. As far as what to make it depends on the kids. I have made breakfast meals, cups with drinks in them, hamburgers, cookies. I branched out and made pans. There is such a range of patterns out there much depends on what you want to make and how encouraged they are to use it in pretend creative play.
  9. I like having projects to switch back and forth between. The doll blanket is coming along. I have the last child afghan started again and making progress. Just to make things crazy I started a granny ripple for my Mom. The child's afghan and the doll blanket require concentrated effort to manage the pattern without needing to constantly fix. The granny stripe is a great pattern to do in company because the pattern is easy to follow.
  10. Mine arrived Saturday. I was concerned because I got my Digital copy so much earlier.
  11. Great progress. I have no idea what a Pomp a Doodle Poodle is.
  12. What a thoughtful house warming gift.
  13. These are free sport pattern links I have on my blog.
  14. Exactly. I like enough to turn it white, but not enough that I can't find the yard.
  15. My Mom didn't crochet either. I learned with the help of my Aunt just recently. I used DVD's from the library, too. The children's book section can also provide some easy to understand resources.
  16. Afghans are a big hit with the men in my family. My Mom has made most of my brothers and the nephews one. I pushed in her in that direction when she found the sweaters were not being worn. If he has any favorite characters, etc. you can almost find anything with an ami style pattern out there now.
  17. Started the 18" doll blanket that will match the child's blanket and it seems to be a good fit. Started Mom's afghan and I may be frogging and looking for a new option. I'm not crazy with the look. I have some other options and it could end up as a birthday instead of Christmas if it doesn't make the finish line. Getting the yarn bobbins tomorrow so I should be able to resume work on the last of the children's Christmas afghans I need to make for relatives.
  18. I finally finished embroidering a tablecloth that I thought was going to become a generational project a couple of years ago. My sister made me one so I now have enough for the two tables we use on Christmas Eve. I could not imagine having the ability to crochet with the thread they use for tablecloths. I need to make a tree skirt. I have a BEAUTIFUL one my sister embroidered for me, but it is white and very attractive to my latest dog. So I am determined to work on one that will be a replacement. The other should be passed down intact. I bought an Annie's book last year, but I am attracted to the round ripple one people keep talking about for my choice. I have a teddy bear angel I got when I first moved out. I can't imagine replacing her until I have too. Most of the time I end up sending off the stuff I make for the holidays. I love the ami's, the decorations, and the home items. I keep thinking I am going to make a tissue box cover. I have the patterns, but never got to them. I even have a kit for one of the toilet paper covers I got on sale with a snowman, but projects I was sending out have taken over my finishing it. Hopefully, I will get to some of those. I'm finishing up my Thanksgiving box and then will be focused on Christmas.
  19. Mrs. Claus is now posted on my blog. I have to revise the Skipper pattern into a skirt and top as the one piece does not work with her arms and the shorter look does not work for the period. I am learning to work with yarn bobbins and restarted the last of the children's afghans I have to finish for Christmas. I found the doll afghan patterns yesterday so I can choose one for the 18" dolls. I have the yarn left over from the afghan I made for the doll's owner. I still need to get Pilgrim outfits made for Skipper, Barbie, Kelly, the other sister, and the American Girl doll.
  20. Mrs. Claus is finished and now posted on my blog. I have to revisit my Skipper Thanksgiving dress design as my husband identified it as being a beautiful Victorian gown.:lol I think I am going to go with a skirt and a top as her arms make putting tops on and off more challenging. The Barbie pattern I'm adapting is a one piece dress. I found a ripple pattern in patriotic colors that Mom will love so I got the base done for that yesterday. I tried starting a Christmas afghan for my Aunt but after trying to establish the base 5 times and ripping it out, I have determined I need to get her to help me with the pattern. I am obviously NOT reading the repeats correctly as I have too few of one type of stitch at the end and too many overall stitches. Mom introduced me to yarn bobbins during her fall visit. What wonderful tools. I started the last of the afghans I need for the younger relatives over using the bobbins to deal with the MANY color changes. I need more to be able to work on it, but it makes a huge difference in keeping the yarn untangled!! I should be able to get those this weekend and be off and running on getting this project going.
