Crochet Old timers
Mom2PBJ replied to craftybutterfly's topic in Crochet Discussion: Everything Else
Ummm...my oldest will be 21 in October and I'm only 43. My beloved Grandmother taught me be basics when I was, oh, I guess maybe 8, then again when I was about 11 or 12, then I didn't pick it up again until my oldest was around 4 (1989) and I wanted to make her some leg warmers for her ballet and jazz classes. I went round and round with those ( ) until I gave up because it ended up being a leg-to-neck warmer because I couldn't stop going in circles because I didn't know about slip stitch at the time (although now I do!) and then put everything away until October of 2003 (when I was laid off from my job ) and have been going ever since. Now I'm not even going to attempt to add all that up so I'm just going to go with 3 years and consider the earlier attempts as practice. -
crochetted sweaters for men?

crochetted sweaters for men?
Mom2PBJ replied to MidnightStorms's topic in Crochet Discussion: Everything Else
Funny you wrote this because this past Monday I was searching for a Men's sweater pattern and couldn't find one I liked. I was going to ask around here about it but alas, time got away. I'm not experienced enough to take a women's sweater and adjust it for a man. If it's not written down for me to follow, well, then it doesn't happen. -
I did that last night as well. I was near the end of the skeins for my afghan and I just wanted to attach the new yarn before going to bed. Then it became I just need to complete the row after attaching, which became just one more, just one more. But I finally had to put it down at 11:30 because I had to get up for something and then I finally went to bed. And I did all that with a big headache and I really just wanted to go to bed. But hey...I was glad I waited. And if I didn't have to get up the next morning for work I'm sure I would have stayed up a whole lot later.

What's on your hook for Christmas?
Mom2PBJ replied to Mom2PBJ's topic in Crochet Discussion: Everything Else
I started another project this past weekend - my first afghan. I've had the Q hook for two years and it was still in its wrapper. I went to Michael's and got six skeins of the Homespun in the Deco color. So far it's going pretty darn smooth. I may make another one. -
Thank you, ChicagoHooker. That's just one of those things that confuse me.
-
Thank you. When I get a chance I'm going to look through the site.

OK, here's my question. The pattern calls for 6 skeins; it is crocheted holding 2 strands together. Does that mean it takes all 6 skeins so therefore we must get 12 since it's done with 2 strands or does that mean while we're doing it holding 2 strands it will only take 3 skeins (meaning get 6 because you're working with 2 at a time)? Did that confuse anybody?

Haven't heard of them. Can you give the website?
-
I'm in the process of making a drawstring purse. The pattern is one the free leaflets from Michaels. It has a cardboard bottom so it can sit flat. It's made with size 3 thread. It's coming along nicely.

Super Soap Saver (Edited - link to pattern on original post)

I think a few of those would be great. Can you point me to a pattern? -
Now that's pretty. My 11 YO DD would like that. Does AC Moore have a website? I've never heard of them, so they probably aren't in my neck in the woods (Houston).
-
Very cute. My DD just loves strawberries. Wonder if she would like the bag...I'm sure she would. Do you have a pattern to share?
-
Oh I just love that blue! What exactly is the shade?
-
No but it was something my beloved grandmother always wanted to learn. She taught me to crochet when I was little. She also sewed - a lot. But tatting was something she never got around to learning. Sometimes I feel like I should learn just because she didn't get to (gone now for 17 years). Who knows...maybe someday I'll give it a try.

I have that book/kit and I would like to make it. I haven't committed to something that big yet but I'm thinking I may do for my daughter for Christmas since she now lives in Kentucky (we're in Houston) where my son-in-law is stationed in the Army and I do believe it's cooler there (it snows so I'm sure it is).

I've done this before only I didn't realize it was a "mistake" until much, much too late. But by then I had repeated the mistake so many times it acutally looked OK.
-
I vote for Freda!

Has anybody started with their holiday crocheting yet? I have two WIPs on the hook right now - a drawstring purse and a beaded bracelet for my 11 yo DD. I'm thinking about trying socks for the first time as she has told me for the past year that she wanted some funky-looking socks. So we shall see.

ummm... a little bit tense???
Mom2PBJ replied to Miss USA's topic in Crochet Discussion: Everything Else
Ahh...so they can snap in two. When I'm working with thread I always feel like my hook is going to bend or snap. Now that I know it's possible I'll be more careful. Last night I was working with size 3 thread and I really thought my hook was going to snap but thankfully it didn't. -
http://mom2pbj.blogspot.com/ What was I thinking?!?! Hopefully I'll be able to post pictures of my creations real soon (as soon as I can figure out it's done! ) Anyway...it's a start.

Ooh...I'm in the south part of Houston...Clear Lake area.

You're across town. I'm in the South area. Webster, League City, Friendswood. Heard of Kemah Boardwalk (it's been advertised on TV)? I'm down that way.
