  1. I have a habit of making my starting chain too tight, so I go up a hook size for my chain, then I switch to the size appropriate for the yarn. That seems to work for me.
  2. Oooh! That's exactly the type of girl she is.. Thanks so much! I better get started.
  3. Oh, not necessarily a scarf. I mean, she has plenty of those, but I thought it'd be cool to make her one myself. I still want to make her something, seeing as I have all this yarn, and not a lot of money to spend. I'm not really sure what to make. I already made her a cozy for her mp3 player...but nothing else really comes to mind. The slippers sound pretty cool, but I know a few patterns call for decreases, which kind of confuse me.
  4. Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 I think it's pretty nifty. Haven't tried it myself, so I"m not sure how well it works.. Hope this helps.
  5. Not sure if this is the right category, so please bear with me. My sister's birthday is Friday and she'll be turning 13. I had started a scarf for her a week ago, and now I've misplaced it and can't find it. I was wondering if anyone knows something quick and simple to whip up in three days.. Thanks in advance.
  6. It's not really too weird, but I had a hook one of my best friend's gave me before she joined the marines and I used it like AAAAALLL the time. One day I was working on something at my boyfriend's house and it went missing. We looked everywhere for it and I never found it. I was really upset. A couple of days later I was working on it again with another hook and I felt something kinda hard in the skein. Turns out the hook got jammed into the skein...I wound up losing it again though.. =(
  7. This is a hat I made. i didn't use a pattern, and it's the first ever hat I made: http://i421.photobucket.com/albums/pp292/oO_RainbowBrite_Oo/January2009057.jpg This is a scarf I'm working on: http://i421.photobucket.com/albums/pp292/oO_RainbowBrite_Oo/January2009062.jpg This is a scarf I finished: http://i421.photobucket.com/albums/pp292/oO_RainbowBrite_Oo/January2009063.jpg And last but not least, a camera cozy (as modeled by my cell phone). I didn't use a pattern for this either: http://i421.photobucket.com/albums/pp292/oO_RainbowBrite_Oo/January2009103.jpg I hope you guys like them.
  8. Actually, I think he was in his twenties, but I'm already happily taken ^-^
  9. I don't really know what else to put as a title.. Anyway. I was out with a friend today and she decided to get her hair cut. While we were waiting I pulled out something I was working on and this guy comes over and was like, "wow I haven't seen anyone do that in a long time. I crochet too. My grandma taught me.." I just thought it was cool I randomly met someone who crochets, and a guy at that, lol.
  10. Oh man, I loved the Wilson one. That's just too great. I'll have to try this out. If I succeed, this will be my first ever pattern followed!
  11. I crochet everywhere. I don't care what people say or think. If they want to joke and say I'm an old lady, then so be it. Most of the time though, people just ask me about it and stuff. Even my co workers think it's cool and they're like 18 too. I wouldn't let it bother me. They're just jealous cause they can't do it!
  12. Haha, my mom bought me two skeins today, so that puts me at....-3. Ah well. I'm about to use up one on a scarf for her, and probably one for me. I already have like, seven, but I *love* scarves.
  13. I need to get through a few skeins seeing at my mom is about to get another one for me to make her a scarf. But I have to have it done by February, so, hopefully I'll go through it quick. My stash actually isn't that big, especially compared to some I've seen, lol. I only have a laundry tote full of yarn, and most of it is Peaches n Cream yarn for dishcloths..
  14. Hm, I hadn't thought to check out thrift stores. I go there a lot to just look around. I used to get drama costumes from there, and every once in a while I find something I actually like. I guess since I hadn't thought to look for yarn, I never really saw any. Guess I'll have to look around next time.
  15. Wow guys, what great stories. They are all really interesting. Thanks for sharing.
  16. That's about the same here. I found this crochet kit at K-Mart that came with a sparkly purple hook and some yarn, but the instructions were kinda hard to follow. My friend taught me how to single crochet and for about 6 months that's all I could do. I finally looked up videos on youtube, and now I'm a crocheting fool. I've also learned how to knit, and use one of those knifty knitter looms by watching youtube videos.
  17. I'd like to know how and/or why everyone first started crocheting. I always thought it was so cool when I was younger and I finally learned about a year ago when I found out my friend knew how.
  18. Ours has dwindled too. I've noticed they made the scrapbooking section bigger as well. There aren't a lot of places to get yarn around here either. I haven't a clue where the nearest JoAnn's is, and I was just at Michael's yesterday, and I don't really like the prices there.
  19. I got two one pound things of yarn from my boyfriend's grandparents for Christmas. I'd really like to attempt to make an afghan again (my first one didn't turn out so great) and I was just looking for a simple pattern that's really easy to follow. I'm not really great at following them, but there's always a time to learn, right? I'm looking for something fairly large, as I like to cuddle up with them, somewhere along the lines of about 5-6' wide and long. I can do pretty basic stitches, and as long as the pattern has an explanation of special stitches, I think I can handle it. I'm sorry if it seems like I'm looking for a lot, but any help would be greatly appreciated. :manyheart:hug:manyheart:hug:manyheart
  20. Haha. I just went there today. I surprisingly didn't walk out with much. Just a couple of skeins. I didn't really need any, especially considering my boyfriend's grandparents gave me two one pounders, and ten smaller skeins for Christmas..
  21. My boyfriend's mom was really pleased. I think she almost started crying.
  22. Oops, nevermind. I think it was the "single crochet from A to Z" What other kind of books would everyone recommend? I"m not looks for patterns per say, just some books with stitches and all that jazz.
  23. I saw a post talking about this book where it was a bunch of variations of the single crochet... Anyone remember what it's called?
  24. Hello and welcome from Virginia, as well.
  25. Haha. He was definitely a keeper before hand, though.
